Hope is on the Horizon

My goal working with people experiencing chronic pain, is to reach for liberation from living, being and doing in the shadow of pain.

Research in literature supports therapy that targets the 3 fold impact of pain, which identifies the affect on the physical body, the emotional response to pain, and how pain impacts our thinking and behaviours. Protective postures, depression and pre-empting/planning to avoid painful experiences, are examples of how pain impacts us in these 3 areas.

I aim to support people to develop an understanding of why they are experiencing pain, how it affects their physical, emotional and mental states, and strategies and techniques to reduce the impact pain has on their participation in the tasks and roles, that bring meaning and purpose to their lives.

Services offered as part of this holistic approach to pain management include:

  • Education about 3 fold impact of pain

  • Exploration of the impact of pain on physical, mental & emotional wellbeing, roles and occupational participation

  • Practical individualised pain management programs

  • Pain mapping

  • Desensitisation

  • Mirror Box Therapy

  • Task analysis, modification and activity accommodation

This service is suitable for people experiencing:

  • Chronic long term pain

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

  • Localised area pain e.g. back pain, shoulder pain

  • Pain associated with chronic disease e.g. arthritis & cancer

Being a woman myself, the wellbeing of mothers, sisters and wives, grandmothers, aunties and daughters is close to my heart. Women's experiences of health and wellbeing has always been a passion of mine.

I have developed this service with the intention of addressing the array of emotional, mental and physical experiences that come with being a woman. I would like to offer a safe place for women to share & problem solve issues and experiences close to their hearts, that are impacting who, what and how they want to be, do and live in this world.

With loving understanding and acceptance, I aim to promote women’s wellbeing through careful exploration and consideration of the specific issues faced by each woman. This may include; navigating personal growth, masculine and feminine duality, disease & illness, changing roles, trauma & abuse and goal attainment.

Activity analysis, task modification, and goal setting are used to ensure active continuation of meaningful tasks and roles for women at every stage of life.  My aim is to support women not just to cope, but to thrive in times when our bodies, minds and lives are changing through; puberty, pregnancy, menstruation & menopause. Counselling, mental and emotional support for women individually, and within their relationships & families is a core element of this service. This service is also suitable for women who would like to discuss or work through issues associated with sexuality and intimacy.

In 2017 & 2018 I completed additional studies in Eastern philosophies of Buddhism, Hinduism & Taoism, and aspects of this learning are included in my approach to women’s wellbeing as part of this service.

Please contact me to discuss your individual needs, and to see how this service can be tailored to support you and your goals.

Feeling Safe & Calm, Right Where You Are

Stress affects our ability to be present and fully experience our day to day activities, as often we can find ourselves on ‘autopilot’ throughout the day. Experiences of anxiety, often make us want to avoid certain activities, places and roles, and our occupational range can become contracted. When this occurs, we can miss experiencing the joy, meaning and purpose we derive from our daily tasks, our hobbies, leisure activities and the social connections that come from them.

Noticing what is happening in your body, with your emotions and with your thoughts, during our daily occupations is a powerful tool for tackling stress & anxiety. Without noticing and consciously paying attention to what is happening in our bodies, emotions and minds, anxiety and stress can become baseline functioning. It is well supported in research that stress & anxiety if left unaddressed, has a negative impact on health and wellbeing.

This service aims to support people experiencing stress and anxiety to feel safe and calm, so they can participate in the activities and roles they want to do & need to do, that provide meaning, purpose and connection in their lives. Working together we can explore:

  • Understanding and identifying what does stress & anxiety look like for me – physically, emotionally & mentally?

  • How does it affect my roles and meaningful occupations?

  • What are my triggers for stress & anxiety?

  • Develop practical individualised toolkits for tackling stress and anxiety

  • Provide practical opportunities to practice strategies in meaningful, safe and supported environments
